HR Articles - Training and Development

NLP was first defined by Richard Bandler (a mathematician) and John Grinder (an Associate Professor of Linguistics) working together at the University of California, Santa Cruz, in the early 1970s at a time of rapid development in the humanities field.

People all over the world are discovering the power of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) for changing their lives, and achieving their goals. NLP training is effective at both the personal and professional levels. It helps one to know how the mind works, to establish clear and attainable goals and an understanding of the steps needed to attain these goals. NLP compliments other aspects of self development such as brain gymnastics, the effect of music, the psychology of persuasion, colour psychology and self hypnosis.

The magic of NLP is powered by certain undisputable facts often referred to as presuppositions, the so called ‘what if it is true’ principle. The most important of these are:

  • Mind and body form a linked system.
  • The meaning of your communication is the response you get.
  • There is no failure, only feedback.
  • Behind every behavior, there is a positive intention.

NLP is about modeling excellence, mastering your mind, a study of the structure of an experience and a tool to calibrate and understand how an individual makes sense of the world so that it can be done better with more choices to get what we always dreamed. NLP has a wide range of practical applications in business (e.g. management, personnel, sales, consulting), training and development, education, law, medicine, health, farming, writing and the arts, sports, parenting, hobbies and personal development – anywhere, where communicating and excelling are important.

NLP helps to know:

· What will facilitate your communication outcome when interacting with another person?

· How to make yourself understood to those who perceive the world differently than you do.

· Know what to do to turn a challenging situation around.

· Have your own abilities and knowledge available when you most need them.

· Have a strategy to acquire desirable behaviors from your role models.

· NLP explores how we think and feel and studies or ‘models’ excellence in every walk of life. NLP is first and foremost about action.

· By using NLP you can give yourself more conscious choice over what you do and the way you act

· Using NLP at work and in your personal life will sharpen your skills and boost your achievements. “The theories and practices of NLP will help you discover what makes some people excel in all aspects of their lives, and will enable you to do the same.” .

In business, it is effective in sales negotiations. By carefully observing unconscious non verbal signals, you can determine how far and how well you can go with your client in striking a deal. In marketing, it can engineer desired consumer responses. NLP is extensively used in market research to draw clear customer preferences for product promotions.

In human resources management, NLP techniques help organizations to identify the right candidates for the right job. It helps considerably in change management, building interpersonal relationships and team cohesiveness.

NLP is a life changing tool for many people like Directors, Managers at all level, Sales personnel, Administrators, Engineers, Customer care staff and trainers
